“Equality Act” Will Force Us to Lie Says Ruth Institute

The “Equality Act” making its way through Congress will force people to lie about the reality of biological sex and, by lying, to corrupt themselves,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.

“The Equality Act will require us to affirm that a man who says he’s a woman is in fact, in every way, a woman. If you can make people tell such an obvious lie, you can get them to do anything,” Morse said.

The bill, which passed the House on February 18, would amend the U.S. Civil Rights Act to add sexual orientation and gender identity to the list of protected classes.

“But it goes far beyond that,” Morse said. “A man who says he’s a woman could stay overnight in a shelter for battered women. A convicted rapist who says he’s a woman could be housed in a women’s prison. The bill will force our daughters to use bathrooms, changing room and showers with biological males who say they are females. This is the height of insanity.

“If the so-called Equality Act becomes law, it will destroy women’s sports. For years, ‘progressives’ insisted on absolute equality between men and women’s sports. Clinton Administration officials went around closing men’s wrestling and swimming programs to achieve this goal. Now, in the name of a bogus equality, self-styled champions of women are killing women’s sports by forcing women and girls to compete with males who are, by their nature, stronger, faster and have greater endurance.

“I find it mystifying that a party that puts itself forth as a champion of women could do this to real flesh-and-blood women,” Morse charged.

“The ‘Equality Act’ would require Catholic physicians and hospitals to prescribe hormone treatments and perform surgery in violation of their conscience. Employers would not be allowed to discriminate on the basis of ‘gender identity.’ Airlines would have to use male TSA guards who say they are women to do pat-downs of biological, that is, real women.”

Morse warned, “We are on the verge of becoming a totalitarian society where the government commands citizens to lie. If this monstrosity becomes law, we will have gone over the edge and into uncharted territory.”

There’s a good chance the misnamed Equality Act can be stopped in the Senate, where 60 votes are needed to end a filibuster. Morse urged senators to “‘follow the science,’ in President Biden’s immortal words, and not endorse a deceptive appeal to minority rights. We cannot allow ideology to trump reality.”

Planned Parenthood Despicable for Medicating “Transgender” Youth--Ruth Inst.

Planned Parenthood Despicable for Medicating “Transgender” Youth--Ruth Inst.

“Apparently there’s no longer enough money in the abortion racket. Now Planned Parenthood has found a new class of victims to exploit,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., Founder and President of the Ruth Institute.

Morse was reacting to an explosive interview with an anonymous Planned Parenthood employee, calling trans kids ‘cash cows.’ The PP staffer told Wall Street Journal that youth who identify as transgender were quickly prescribed cross-sex hormones with no examination of their underlying condition.

The staffer also said that many of those seeking such treatment “showed signs of emotional and mental health issues” and then “are kept on the hook for the foreseeable future in terms of follow-up appointments, blood work, meetings etc., whereas abortions are (hopefully) a one-and-done situation.”

Morse stated, “Our friends who do sidewalk counseling outside Planned Parenthood clinics told us about the increase of ‘trans-minded’ clients, so we weren’t surprised by these revelations. Planned Parenthood has simply found a new way to exploit youth.

“Young women who are often at their most vulnerable visit a clinic and are put on an operating table as quickly as possible,” Morse said. “There is no counseling. No alternatives are discussed. The names of underage women who were sexually exploited often aren’t reported to the police. It’s: Get on the table, put your feet in the stirrups, and you’re done. There isn’t even a discussion of the psychological effects of abortion, like post-abortion syndrome or the increased risk of breast cancer.”

With Planned Parenthood’s recent selling baby parts scandal, “How much more evidence is needed of the predatory nature of Planned Parenthood’s ‘business’?” Morse asked.

In Pushing the Trans Agenda, Biden will Make Obama Look Like Phyllis Schlafly

“In three actions in his first week in office, President Biden has demonstrated his blind adherence to ‘transgendered’ dogma,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Founder and President of the Ruth Institute.

Morse reported: “First, he appointed a man who says he’s a woman, Dr. Richard Levine, as Assistant Secretary of Health. This was widely heralded among progressives as a landmark appointment.”

In 2013, Dr. Levine, a father of two who was Pennsylvania’s Health Secretary, divorced his wife of 30 years, began wearing a dress and wig, and announced that he was now a “woman” named Rachel.

“If he called himself Daffy, that wouldn’t make him a duck,” Morse replied.

“Regardless of how he dresses or what he calls himself, Dr. Levine will remain what he was at birth, and what he will be for the rest of his life – a man.”

Morse added, “Democrats are forever demanding that we listen to ‘science’ on issues like global warming and COVID. Does science tell them that a man can become a woman with a change of name and wardrobe?”

The President also signed an executive order repealing President Trump’s order prohibiting “transgenders” from serving in the military and requiring the armed forces to pay for so-called gender reassignment surgery.

“And how exactly will this enhance military readiness?” Morse asked. “Does he honestly believe that members of our armed forces are just aching to go into combat with men in panty hose? Can our military, which needs everything from new weapon systems to better health care, really afford to pay to have body parts removed from healthy men and women?”

Finally, President Biden issued yet another executive order repealing one of Trump’s orders returning gender-sanity to schools.

“Once more, boys will be able to use girl’s bathrooms, showers and changing rooms -- considerations of modesty and safety notwithstanding,” Morse said.

“He also effectively ended women’s sports. Women now will be forced to compete against men who say they’re women. The latter will have an often insurmountable advantage due to greater muscle mass and other physical differences between the sexes,” Morse explained. “For years, proponents of the Sexual Revolution held themselves up as champions of women’s sports. Now, they’re demonstrating their commitment to women’s sports by destroying women’s sports.”

“In pushing the LGBTQ agenda without question or compromise, President Biden will make Barack Obama look like Phyllis Schlafly,” Morse predicted.

Ruth Inst. Applauds Diocese of Lansing, Slams State of Virginia, for Stands on Gender Ideology

Ruth Inst. Applauds Diocese of Lansing, Slams State of Virginia, for Stands on Gender Ideology

“The Ruth Institute congratulates the Catholic Diocese of Lansing, Michigan, for siding with nature and science against ideology,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., founder and president of the Ruth Institute.

On January 15, the Lansing diocese launched a policy on gender identity based on the Congregation for Catholic Education’s 2019 document, “Male and Female He Created Them.” The document rejects “any ‘gender theory’ that denies the difference and reciprocity in nature of a man and a woman.”

“Finally, an institution is willing to stand up to the gender ideology, which is sweeping government and our schools,” said Morse. “The diocese’s policy provides that students and parents be addressed with pronouns in accordance with their biological sex. Students will participate in sports and use bathrooms, showers, and changing rooms on the same basis.

“This is consistent with respect for the biological reality of male and female. The diocesan policy also reflects Catholic teaching that the differences between male and female are part of God’s design and gifts to be accepted and cherished,” Morse explained.

The diocesan policy recognizes that gender dysphoria “is a real psychological condition which causes real human suffering that has to be met with genuine compassion, rooted in truth and love, and accompanied by the highest standards of pastoral care.”

Morse noted that studies have shown that the vast majority of young people with gender dysphoria diagnoses who are supported in their biological sex, eventually become comfortable with their bodies.

“No one is ‘born in the wrong body.’ The diocesan policy is authentic compassion,” Morse said.

She contrasted the Lansing Diocese with the Virginia Department of Education, which claims that male and female are merely “labels” that are “typically assigned at birth.”

Virginia’s policies require that students be allowed to use the bathroom, etc. of their choice. Teachers and administrators are not allowed to question the action. Not using a student’s preferred pronoun is considered a form of harassment to be met with disciplinary action.

Morse charged, “For the Commonwealth of Virginia, modesty is irrelevant. Girls will not be allowed to object to the presence of boys in places where their bodies are exposed. Virginia’s policies encourage voyeurism and punish those who protest this gross invasion of privacy. Under Virginia’s policies, to refuse to endorse a student’s fantasy is an offense to be equated with racial or religious discrimination.”

There’s nothing compassionate about subscribing to an individual’s fantasy world and punishing those who refuse to endorse their delusions,” Morse said. “Men who say they are women are the legal equivalent of humans with women’s bodies. There is certainly nothing ‘pro-woman’ about saying that women’s bodies are irrelevant,” Morse declared. “The State of Virginia is erasing womanhood. Those of us who believe in eternal truth must oppose the folly of our times.”

Removal of Healthy Breasts from Adolescents is Unconscionable, Says Ruth Inst.

Removal of Healthy Breasts from Adolescents is Unconscionable, Says Ruth Inst.

“Removing healthy breasts is irrevocable and unconscionable,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., in response to the California Department of Insurance stating insurance companies must pay for the breast removal of teenaged girls “transitioning” to boys.

Further, these operations are no longer to be considered cosmetic but required “reconstructive” surgery to remove “abnormal structures of the body caused by congenital defects.” Morse responded, “How’s that for a string of euphemisms?

“Is anyone telling these children that this move is irrevocable?” Morse asked. “Is anyone telling them that regardless of how they feel in the future, they are giving up their ability to breastfeed a child forever?”

Morse also noted: “Late last year, a high court in the United Kingdom ruled that minors suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to give informed consent to hormone-blocking drugs. But in California, minors can consent to double mastectomies.

“The California Department of Insurance has become a rubber stamp for the gay lobby,” Morse said. “Its decision isn’t medical but ideological. It’s based on the dogma that if a teenaged girl decides she’s a boy and wants to have her body surgically altered to resemble that of a boy, her decision must be celebrated and facilitated.

“What insanity, for someone in authority to tell impressionable teenaged girls that if they think they might want to be a boy, their breasts are just getting in the way and they should go under the surgeon’s knife.”

Dr. Michelle Cretella, MD, FCP, President of the American College of Pediatricians flatly stated: “This active promotion of transgenderism has resulted in massive uncontrolled and unconsented experimentation on children and adolescents. This is child abuse.”

Dr. Cretella spoke at the Ruth Institute’s 2020 Summit for Survivors of the Sexual Revolution on “Medical Tragedies of the Sexual Revolution.”

On January 5, Morse was interviewed on the California Insurance Department’s decision on the One America News Network.

Actress’s Name Change Doesn’t Alter Reality, Ruth Inst. Says

Actress’s Name Change Doesn’t Alter Reality, Ruth Inst. Says

“The most depressing thing about actress Ellen Page’s announcement that she has ‘come out as transgender’ is the way the media fawns over her,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., founder and president of the Ruth Institute.

“Since Page’s announcement that she is now a man named ‘Elliot,’ media outlets have been scrupulous about changing feminine pronouns to masculine pronouns. Page has a problem, and instead of trying to help her, the culture is eager to accommodate her,” Morse observed.

She added: “The ‘X-Men’ actress announced that she ‘finally feels free to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self.’ But wherein does that authenticity lie? Page was born a woman and will remain a woman until the day she dies, regardless of what she chooses to call herself or do with her body.

“People are born men or women, not gay or transgendered or one of the myriad genders created by activists,” Morse said. “Reality can’t be altered by changing pronouns.

“Going along with a fantasy isn’t helpful or healing – in fact, quite the opposite. Page has certain notions which are, quite frankly, opposed to reality. Who knows what trauma led her to embrace this illusion – that she is a he called Elliott. But enabling her only keeps her from getting the help she needs.

“It’s the Emperor’s New Clothes with a gender twist. It’s also the latest milestone in the Sexual Revolution, which started with the lie that you can have sex without consequences. It then evolved into the lie that you can change your gender with a simple declaration, and that those who refuse to go along with the fantasy are hateful bigots ruining the lives of those who want what they can never have.”

Ruth Inst. Applauds Court Ruling on Reparative Therapy Bans

Ruth Inst. Applauds Court Ruling on Reparative Therapy Bans

“In striking down bans on Sexual Orientation Change Efforts to lessen same-sex attraction, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals sided with First Amendment free speech against LGBT dogma,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., Founder and President of the Ruth Institute.

The court overturned local ordinances of the City of Boca Raton and the county of Palm Beach, Florida. These ordinances prohibited licensed counselors from offering counseling to minors who voluntarily seek their help to “reduce same-sex behavior and attraction and eliminate what they term confusion over gender identity.” (pg. 4)

Morse noted, “Sexual Revolutionary activists, and the professional associations they control, have successfully persuaded local governments to adopt these bans. The activists argue that this type of therapy, based solely on conversation between therapist and client, are psychologically harmful. I am especially pleased that the Court’s majority considered the evidence on this point.”

The Court stated: “[The Defendants] present a series of reports and studies setting out harms of SOCE. But when examined closely, these documents offer assertions rather than evidence, at least regarding the effects of purely speech-based SOCE. Indeed, a report from the American Psychological Association, relied on by the defendants, concedes that ‘nonaversive and recent approaches to SOCE have not been rigorously evaluated.’” (pg. 21)

“Without conclusive evidence, LGBT organizations insist that homosexuality is innate, and that individuals with same-sex attraction must accept their fate -- that they are condemned to be ‘gay,’ whether they like it or not,” Morse explained.

In fact, the majority decision pointed out that the ordinances contain an exception for “counseling that provides support and assistance to a person undergoing gender transition.” But the Court goes on to observe, “No such carveout exists for sexual orientation. The ordinances thus codify a particular viewpoint—sexual orientation is immutable, but gender is not—and prohibit the therapists from advancing any other perspective when counseling clients. That viewpoint may be widely shared in the communities that passed the ordinances, but widespread agreement is beside the point; the question is whether a speaker’s viewpoint determines his license to speak.” (pg. 12)

Morse congratulated Liberty Counsel, which provided representation to the therapists in this case. “I agree with Liberty Counsel President Mat Staver when he said that ‘This is a huge victory for counselors and their clients to choose the counsel of their choice free of political censorship from government ideologues.’”

American Journal of Psychiatry Corrects Pro-Transgender Surgery Study

“We’re pleased that the American Journal of Psychiatry has issued a rare public correction of serious errors in a study promoting so-called gender-reassignment surgery it published last October,” said Rev. Paul Sullins, Ph.D., Ruth Institute Senior Research Associate.

“The Journal now acknowledges that, contrary to what was reported earlier, the study does not show that those undergoing such surgery had improved mental health. Specifically, it does not show that these patients were less likely to suffer from mood-anxiety disorders, based on reports of fewer hospitalizations or less use of prescription drugs,” Dr. Sullins explained.

“The authors of the study sought to generate (in their words) support for policies that ensure coverage of gender-affirming treatments,” ignoring many elements of the data that invalidated this conclusion. In fact, an earlier, more rigorous, study of the same data had shown that the risk of suicide following sex reassignment surgery was over 10 times that of the general population. Seven groups of scholars noticed the discrepancy and wrote critical letters to the journal pointing out the bias and weaknesses of the newer study. The corrected conclusion of the study was the opposite of what was initially reported.”

For what’s called the Transgender movement, science is frequently distorted in the service of ideology. The results can be catastrophic for individuals and their families.

Pre-teen patients are often subjected to treatment to get them to assume the physical characteristics of the opposite sex. Dr. Sullins charged: “Instead of helping them to feel comfortable with the bodies they have, those suffering from gender dystopia are treated with hormones and surgery to get them to resemble the bodies they do not have.”

“Based on multiple scholarly complaints, the Journal had the integrity to reexamine the study and issue a correction,” Sullins remarked. “We wish everyone dealing with these studies showed the same willingness to view the matter objectively and admit mistakes.”

Fr. Paul Sullins, Ph.D., retired Professor of Sociology at Catholic University of America, is Senior Research Associate of the Ruth Institute and the author of two Ruth Institute reports on the relationship of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church and homosexual priests. “Individuals with a Cervix” is the Latest Effort to Erase Women, Ruth Inst. Charges

“I don’t know whether to laugh or cry,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., regarding CNN using the expression “individuals with a cervix” instead of women, in a story about screenings for cervical cancer.

“We have come to expect this kind of nonsense from CNN. It’s no wonder CNN is at the bottom of the cable-news heap, with roughly half the viewership of FOX News.”

Morse continued, “I was really disappointed to see that the CNN story was a direct report from the American Cancer Society’s premier journal. The medical profession, including venerable organizations like the American Cancer Society, has gone all-in for the Sexual Revolution.”

“Increasingly, the Ruling Class and the Beautiful People of society avoid saying ‘man’ and ‘woman,’ to avoid offending men who say they are women,” said Morse. “In May, a UN official said we need to make language more ‘gender-neutral’ by avoiding words like ‘husband’ and ‘wife,’” she explained.

Morse urged: “CNN and the American Cancer Society need to get a grip on reality. There are two, and only two, sexes – male and female. A man doesn’t become a woman by wanting to be one, or by mutilating his body with hormones and surgery, none of which alters his DNA.”

Morse continued: “Only women can get cervical cancer, because only a woman has a cervix. Why is that so hard to understand? For decades progressives have claimed to be empowering women. Now they are erasing them and pretending that male and female are ‘social constructs.’ The Sexual Revolution was never really about empowering women.”

“There seems to be no end to CNN’s language-manipulation. Instead of saying ‘baby,’ it once used the expression ‘a fetus that was born,’ referring to protections for infants that survive an abortion,” Morse said.

“Just because CNN ‘self-identifies’ as a news channel doesn’t make it one.”

Ruth Inst: Prof. Mike Adams’ Death Shows Academic Establishment’s Fear of Truth

July 28, 2020

For Immediate Release

For more information, contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

Commenting on the tragic death of University of North Carolina Professor Mike Adams, Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., said, “Mike was a constant irritant to the cultural ruling class. The Academic Establishment hates being challenged, especially by someone truthful and funny.”

Professor Adams, a 27-year teaching veteran, was found dead in his home, apparently of a gunshot wound. He was a tenured professor of sociology and criminology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and an author, public speaker and frequent contributor to conservative publications.

“His uncompromising opposition to abortion, feminism, LGBTQ activism and the trans movement made him a regular target of the Establishment,” Morse observed. “He made them look ridiculous, which joyless ideologues simply cannot abide.”

“Reporting on his death, the media describe Adams’ tweets as ‘controversial’ and ‘provocative.’ However, they never disproved the truth underlying his humor,” Morse added.

Among Adams’ tweets was: “The violent outrage of white liberals taking to the streets is brought to you by your local university. None of this would be possible without the encouragement of academic extremists who have hijacked the system of higher education.”

“Can any serious person deny this?” Morse said.

Speaking of the COVID shutdown, Adams wrote: “Presently a woman can get her baby cut out of the womb in North Carolina. But she cannot go to a salon to get her hair cut.”

Morse noted: “North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper is on record supporting infanticide. So which part of Mike’s statement is untrue?”

One of Adam’s media critics wrote: “He called trans people mentally ill and asserted that any doctor willing to help with gender-reassignment surgery should be charged with mutilating a mentally ill person.”

Morse responded: “Anyone who thinks it’s normal for a man to have his penis cut off or a woman to have healthy breasts removed needs a serious reality check.”

The university forced Adams, 55, into early retirement. In recent weeks, friends said he was “under a lot of stress.”

“No kidding,” said Morse. “The stress came from his persecution. In any other context, this would be called workplace harassment.”

Morse concluded: “The academic totalitarians took another conservative scalp. A brave man has left us too soon. An eloquent voice has been stilled. Professor Mike Adams, rest in peace.”
