Ruth Inst. Awards Banquet to Celebrate Courageous Pro-Life/ Pro-Family Leaders

The Ruth Institute’s 4th Annual Summit, “Reclaiming the Professions for Life and Family,” July 16-17 in Lake Charles, LA, kicks off with an Awards Banquet.

“This banquet honors heroic leaders and authors who shine the light of truth on the Sexual Revolution,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.

The Book of the Year Award will be received by Katy Faust, co-author of Them Before Us. Published in February 2021, Them Before Us dispels prevalent, harmful myths concerning children’s rights, including:

  • Kids only need love and safety – moms and dads are optional.
  • Love makes a family – biology is irrelevant.
  • Children are resilient and will “get over” divorce.

Faust was a recent guest on the Ruth Inst’s weekly Dr. J Show, discussing why children shouldn’t be forced to sacrifice their happiness for their parents.

Sharon Slater, president of Family Watch International, will receive the Activist of the Year Award. Slater also chairs the UN Family Rights Caucus and is the author of Stand for the Family: A Call to Responsible Citizenship, which contains research on many sensitive topics, including human sexuality.

Slater was also a recent guest on the Dr. J. Show, discussing the UN’s insane sex-ed program.

The night’s keynote speaker, Rev. Walter Hoye, will receive the Witness of the Year Award. In 2009, Rev. Hoye was convicted of protesting at an abortion clinic in Oakland, CA, in violation of the city’s “bubble law.” He was offered a lesser sentence of community service if he agreed to never return to the clinic, but he refused and spent 30 days in jail until his conviction was overturned.

This experience is the subject of his book, Black and Pro-life in America, The Incarceration and Exoneration of Walter B. Hoye.

Hoye is the Founder and President of both the Issues4Life Foundation and the California Civil Rights Foundation. He is the founder of the Frederick Douglass Foundation of California, an Executive Member of the National Black Pro-life Coalition, and a member of the Ruth Institute Board of Directors. In a Dr. J Show interview, he discussed why abortion is the most difficult conversation to have with African Americans.

Following the July 16 Awards Banquet is the Survivors’ Summit on July 17. Find more information and register for these events here.

Ruth Inst. Calls Out Kellogg’s for GLAAD Support

Ruth Inst. Calls Out Kellogg’s for GLAAD Support

“Kellogg’s isn’t endorsing ‘pride,’ but a radical agenda that targets children and families,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.

The breakfast food company is working with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to promote its new purple-boxed “Together with Pride” cereal, which will hit supermarket shelves in June, just in time for pride month.

“Not only are they pushing the LGBTQ agenda,” said Morse, “they’re directly subsidizing it.” For every $4 box sold of the rainbow-colored cereal, GLAAD get $3.

“Supposedly, GLAAD exists to counter defamation. In reality, it lobbies relentlessly for its agenda. Its Commentator Accountability Project targets journalists, guests and pundits who disseminate unpopular, albeit accurate, information about subjects GLAAD has declared off-limits for discussion,” Morse explained.

“For example, if a commentator observes that you can’t change your sex through surgery or drugs, that the sex you were born with will be the sex you die with – which is scientifically sound – GLAAD will call you ‘anti-trans.’ If someone on a talk show observes that children need both a mother and a father, they’ll be labeled ‘hateful.’”

Morse charged: “It’s not just Kellogg’s. An array of corporate giants – including Delta Airlines, Wells Fargo, Netflix, Google and Target contribute to GLAAD’s coffers.

As if direct subsidies weren’t enough, the side of each box of “Together with Pride” urges kids to choose their own pronouns, with options like he/him, she/her, and they/them--the “non-binary” option. There are even blank spaces for children to make up their own. What fun!

“These companies are virtue-signaling to the cultural elite and everyone who buys in to its agenda,” Morse said. “They’re saying ‘We’re nice guys. We love everyone. Buy our product.’

“But to support the LGBTQ agenda is not to love children, families or churches – all of which are ground zero in the culture war,” Morse declared. “Apologies to Tony the Tiger, but grrrreat! it’s not.”

Pro-Abortion/LGBTQ Groups Boast of Getting LifeSite News Banned by Facebook

Pro-Abortion/LGBTQ Groups Boast of Getting LifeSite News Banned by Facebook

Commenting on the news that Sexual Revolutionaries are bragging about getting LifeSiteNews banned by Facebook, Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., said, “Now we know who decides on Facebook’s ‘community standards’: the National Abortion Rights Action League, GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign and Media Matters. Big Tech has become a willing servant of the Sexual Revolution.”

On May 4th, LifeSite was permanently deplatfomed. Three days later, Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL, took credit for the move on Twitter, claiming LSN spread “COVID-19 disinformation.”

“Is FaceBook now the final arbiter on which scientific opinions are valid and which are not?” Morse asked. “They’re engineers, not scientists. And when it comes to the scientific community, there’s no consensus. The CDC, WHO and Dr. Anthony Fauci are frequently at odds. How can a difference of opinion justify censorship?

“But ‘COVID disinformation’ had nothing do with what happened to LifeSite,” Morse said. “The site is a powerful voice against the abortion lobby and radical LGBTQ agenda that had to be silenced.

“Since they can’t make the case for their cause, their first and last response is to scream ‘hate’ at the top of their lungs and censor their opponents whenever possible,” Morse charged. “The only surprise here is their audacity in bragging about their success in silencing the opposition Stalin-style.

“Big Tech operates as an adjunct of groups like GLAAD and NARAL,” Morse said. “In February, LifeSite was permanently banned from YouTube, even though its channel had more than 300,000 subscribers and averaged over 50,000 views on its main show.

“For Big Tech, it’s not about business or communications, but enforcing a rigid intellectual orthodoxy which will brook no dissent,” Mores explained. “Family advocates must unite to end these abuses while we still have a voice.”

The Ruth Institute’s Censorship and Propaganda Resource Center documents how social media are riding roughshod over freedom of speech. This will also be discussed at the Institute’s 2021 Summit, “Reclaiming the Professions for Life and Family” July 16-17 in Lake Charles, LA.

Ruth Inst. Summit Stresses Reclaiming Professions from the S*xual Revolution

The theme of the Ruth Institute’s Fourth Annual Summit (July 16-17 in Lake Charles, LA) is Reclaiming the Professions for Life and Family.

Ruth Institute President Dr. Jenifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., explained: “In recent years, the professions most intimately involved with the health and education of youth have been corrupted by the Sexual Revolution. Doctors follow the myth that people can be born in the wrong body and are willing to surgically remove healthy body parts. Schools are indoctrinating children in the anti-science notion that individuals aren’t the sex they are born with but the one they choose.

“Professionals who dare to speak out are often ostracized, stigmatized and punished,” Morse added.

Summit speakers and panelists include physicians, therapists and teachers, as well as researchers and activists. “These professionals have devoted their lives to education and medicine, and now lament how the Sexual Revolution has come to dominate their professions,” Morse said.

Sessions will include: “Resisting the Corruption of Education,” “Legal Strategies for Reclaiming Education,” “Organizing Therapists,” and “Surviving the Sexual Revolution.”

Morse remarked, “Parents, activists, and professionals will receive the tools they need to reclaim these professions and prevent the mistreatment and miseducation of generations of youth.”

The first day of the Summit will be devoted to the Ruth Institute’s Ambassadors Training Program for leaders and activists. An awards banquet will follow.

A full list of speakers and a complete schedule is forthcoming.

Ruth Inst. Commends Archbp. Cordileone for Upholding Sanctity of Life

On May 13, the Ruth Institute presented a dozen white roses to his Excellency Salvatore Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, for upholding the Church’s teaching on the sanctity of life and for his defense of the Eucharist in his Pastoral Letter, “Before I Formed You in the Womb, I Knew You.”

Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., observed: “Archbishop Cordileone explained the Church’s teaching on the matter of abortion to the public in a dignified and thoughtful manner. His teaching is clear, accurate and uplifting, all of which are necessary at the present time. The Archbishop stands firmly for the ancient teachings of the Catholic Church on the sanctity of life and the Eucharist.”

Morse continued: “The Ruth Institute is encouraged by the strong leadership demonstrated by Archbishop Cordileone. We hope more Church leaders will follow his example. In this time of confusion and scandal, clarity of teaching is more important than ever.”

At their meeting in June, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will reportedly take up the matter of Catholic politicians who support abortion and other social policies which clearly contradict Church teaching.

“The bishops need to decide whether these politicians, including President Biden – whose press secretary regularly refers to as a ‘devout Catholic’ – can be allowed to continue receiving communion in light of their open and flagrant flouting of Church teaching, thereby creating the impression that their advocacy is somehow compatible with Catholic doctrine,” Morse explained.

Past recipients of Roses from Ruth, which was started in 2016, have included Kansas City Archbishop Joseph Naumann, Bishop David Walkowiak of Grand Rapids, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Philadelphia, Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, and Archbishop Charles Thompson of Indianapolis.

Post-Divorce Gates Foundation Still Pushing Population Control in Africa

Post-Divorce Gates Foundation Still Pushing Population Control in Africa

Following the announcement of Bill and Melinda Gates’ divorce, Ruth Institute President, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., said, “Divorce is always tragic for children, even older children such as the three Gates children. The Ruth Institute offers sympathy and condolences to the Gates children for the loss of their parents’ union.

“The metaphorical child of the Gates’ marriage, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will evidently continue to have the involvement of both its parents. The Foundation will keep promoting population control, including abortion, in Africa and other developing parts of the world.

“With net assets of $43.3 billion, larger than 70% of the world’s countries, the Gates Foundation is based on the premise that fewer people is the key to economic development and the best way to combat carbon emissions.”

The Foundation supported a series of International Conferences on Family Planning in conjunction with the United Nations Population Fund. One in Addis Ababa in 2013 focused on “universal access to reproductive health, especially [for] young people and other vulnerable groups,” according to UNFPA.

Morse explained: “Reproductive health is a euphemism for abortion. The goal is to get African nations to make abortion readily available and to encourage Western governments and do-gooders to pour in billions to combat ‘overpopulation.’”

Many Africans beg to differ, such as Nigerian biomedical scientist Obianuju Ekeocha, who said, “We are thirsty and they give us condoms! We are hungry and they offer us contraceptive pills! We are sick and they offer us the most modern techniques of abortion! We are naked and they lead us into the arms of sexual hedonism! We are imprisoned by poverty and they offer us sexual liberation!”

Morse added: “The billions spent by the Gates Foundation on abortion and contraception could go toward providing Africans with clean water, medicine and maternal health care. But instead of promoting life, it is used to buy death.

“And Gates’ premise, which is based on the discredited work of population control false prophet Paul Ehrlich, is all wrong. Population growth is a way out of poverty. Some of the world’s most prosperous nations have the largest populations, like the U.S., China and India. In many developing nations, the problem is lower population density than the developed world. The answer for Africa isn’t fewer children, but more,” Morse said.

Morse spoke in Uganda in 2019 on “The New Colonialism of the Sexual Revolution: An Authentic Catholic Response.”

Don Feder, the Ruth Institute’s Communications Director, will speak at a Family Symposium of the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum on May 14.

The World Needs Moms More Than Ever: Ruth Inst. Opens Motherhood Resource Center

In time for Mothers’ Day, the Ruth Institute launched the Motherhood Resource Center. Founder and president, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., said, “This new Resource Center will be valuable to researchers, policy makers and concerned citizens alike. Visitors will find solid research, media and firsthand stories on the enduring influence of mothers for children and society.”

Among the stories are:

  • Becoming My Mother –“I take meals to neighbors because my mother did. I sit by my children’s door at night and read because she read to us.”
  • Bethany’s Story – “I was physically capable of birthing my child without my mother next to me. But in that moment, I felt the strongest connection to all the women in my family line.”

The media section includes videos, such as:

In the research section, Ruth Institute Senior Research Associate Fr. Paul Sullins summarizes the scientific literature in “The Case for Mom and Dad.” Other research showing the significance of motherhood are articles describing Harry Harlow’s pathbreaking work on monkeys and motherhood, and John Bowlby’s work on attachment theory.

“Bowlby’s work showed that our attachment to parental figures, in particular mothers, plays a huge, critical role in our ability to learn, grow, and develop healthy adult relationships,” Morse said. “Without a strong attachment, we are destined to be deeply disturbed. This insight was crucial to my work in Love and Economics: It Takes a Family to Raise a Village.” In this book, now celebrating its 20th anniversary of publication, Morse demonstrates why the family is an irreplaceable social institution.

Morse concluded: “Previous generations didn’t have to be told the importance of mothers. Sadly, ours does. We need to explain to the world why the relationship of the child to his mother is so important for future success and happiness. The Ruth Institute Motherhood Resource Center will be valuable for a long time to come, providing support for the timeless truths about the value of motherhood.”

Vatican Health Care Conference an “Embarrassment to the Faith”

Vatican Health Care Conference an “Embarrassment to the Faith”

“The Vatican’s choice of speakers for its Fifth International Conference on Health Care is deeply embarrassing to the Catholic faith,” said Ruth Institute President Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. “The Catholic Church is a world-wide institution of over one billion members. Among all those people to choose from, the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Culture couldn’t find anyone better than this lineup of abortion advocates?”

The virtual conference, “Exploring the Mind, Body and Soul,” slated for May 6-8, 2021, includes many prominent abortion-proponents among its 114 speakers, including:

  • Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton, who told an interviewer in 2018 that it would be “un-Christian” to take away what she called “women’s access to safe, legal abortion.”
  • Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer, which manufactures abortion pills.
  • Dr. Anthony Fauci, who assured the World Health Organization that the Biden administration was committed to funding abortion.
  • Population control advocate Jane Goodall.
  • Super-model Cindy Crawford, a celebrity proponent of abortion.

Vatican News claims the conference will bring together “physicians, scientists, ethicists, religious leaders, patients’ rights advocates, policymakers, philanthropists, and commentators to discuss the status quo in medical research and technology, and how these are implemented on a global level.”

Morse responded: “In reality, the conference will bring together celebrities, drug manufacturers, and medical bureaucrats deeply committed to an anti-Catholic agenda, including abortion-on-demand and population control. They are more aligned with the goals of the global ruling class than with the perennial teachings of the faith.”

Former Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, says that with this conference, the Holy See is “making itself the servant of the New World Order.”

“This conference is a travesty,” Morse said. “As Roman Catholics, we have a responsibility to defend the Deposit of Faith that was handed down to us from the Apostles. Those who take this responsibility seriously cannot look to The Vatican for direction or guidance. We must look to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which clearly states that ‘abortion, willed as either an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law,’ and that ‘this teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable.’” (CCC 2271)

Morse charged: “There are too many abortion proponents speaking at this conference to simply uninvite a few. The Ruth Institute calls on the Vatican to cancel the event. Plan a new, fresh conference with prominent scientists, philosophers, and religious leaders who are committed to authentic human rights, including the rights of the most vulnerable among us.”

The Ruth Institute also pledged support for a Life Site petition which asks the Vatican to terminate the May 6-8 conference.

Ruth Inst. President Testifies for Texas Unilateral Divorce Repeal

“No government should have a policy of always taking sides with the party who wants the marriage least,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., President of the Ruth Institute, on April 26, 2021.

Morse was testifying in support of House Bill 3188, filed by Representative Matthew Krause, which would permit "no-fault" divorce in Texas only by mutual consent of spouses.

Morse explained: “Only about one-quarter of divorces take place by mutual consent. Seventy-five per cent of divorces take place against the will of one of the parties.

“One party can drag the other into court and have the assets of the family subject to division.” Also, “The division of custody of the children comes under the jurisdiction and control of the state.”

Morse charged, “The forced division of financial assets and child custody amounts to a serious penalty imposed by the State on a law-abiding citizen, simply at the request of their spouse.” That might mean, for instance, that a party guilty of adultery “could unilaterally end the marriage and have the legal right to contract another marriage with his or her paramour. The law supports the guilty spouse against the innocent spouse.”

The losses to children of divorce are “staggering and well-documented,” Morse said. “One survey of the literature cataloging the harms to the children from divorce includes more than 300 footnotes.”

These children experience diminished academic performance, greater likelihood of drug abuse and suicide, “loss of stability of their relationships with their parents,” inability to trust, and “compromised ability to form stable and satisfying love relationships of their own.”

In conclusion, Morse noted: “These considerations lead me to support an end to unilateral no-fault divorce. No citizen should have the right to unilaterally inflict costs of this magnitude on their spouse and children without a finding of fault.”

As well as being Founder and President of the Ruth Institute, Morse:

  • Taught economics at Yale and George Mason University for a total of 15 years
  • Is the author of six books on marriage, family and human sexuality, including The Sexual State: How Elite Ideologies Are Destroying Lives.
  • Has had her writings translated into Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Polish, and Chuukese (the native language of the Micronesian Islands).
  • Was named one of the “Catholic Stars of 2013” on a list that included Pope Francis and Pope Benedict XVI.
  • Was the campaign spokesman for California’s Proposition 8, (against the redefinition of marriage) which passed in 2008. California Votes for Prop 8 - WSJ
