Ruth Inst. President Testifies for Texas Unilateral Divorce Repeal

“No government should have a policy of always taking sides with the party who wants the marriage least,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., President of the Ruth Institute, on April 26, 2021.

Morse was testifying in support of House Bill 3188, filed by Representative Matthew Krause, which would permit "no-fault" divorce in Texas only by mutual consent of spouses.

Morse explained: “Only about one-quarter of divorces take place by mutual consent. Seventy-five per cent of divorces take place against the will of one of the parties.

“One party can drag the other into court and have the assets of the family subject to division.” Also, “The division of custody of the children comes under the jurisdiction and control of the state.”

Morse charged, “The forced division of financial assets and child custody amounts to a serious penalty imposed by the State on a law-abiding citizen, simply at the request of their spouse.” That might mean, for instance, that a party guilty of adultery “could unilaterally end the marriage and have the legal right to contract another marriage with his or her paramour. The law supports the guilty spouse against the innocent spouse.”

The losses to children of divorce are “staggering and well-documented,” Morse said. “One survey of the literature cataloging the harms to the children from divorce includes more than 300 footnotes.”

These children experience diminished academic performance, greater likelihood of drug abuse and suicide, “loss of stability of their relationships with their parents,” inability to trust, and “compromised ability to form stable and satisfying love relationships of their own.”

In conclusion, Morse noted: “These considerations lead me to support an end to unilateral no-fault divorce. No citizen should have the right to unilaterally inflict costs of this magnitude on their spouse and children without a finding of fault.”

Ruth Inst. Board Member Paul Jonna Named CA Lawyer of the Year

Paul M. Jonna, an attorney with the firm of LiMandri & Jonna in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, and a member of the Ruth Institute’s Board of Directors, was selected as a 2021 California Lawyer Attorney of Year in the Constitutional Law Category by the Los Angeles Daily Journal, an honor he shared with his partner Charles LiMandri.

Jonna and LiMandri were recognized for their outstanding work defending a San Diego church against Gov. Gavin Newsom’s order banning indoor worship during the COVID lockdown, treating houses of worship as “nonessential,” unlike retail establishments.

Eventually, the Supreme Court decided in a 6-3 ruling in February 2021, that the state had discriminated against religion by applying stricter standards to houses of worship than retail stores, in violation of the First Amendment.

Regarding the award, Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., commented: “We are so proud of Paul and his association with the Ruth Institute. He’s been in the forefront of protecting constitutional rights against government overreach in high-profile cases involving religious freedom and the Sexual Revolution.”

Jonna represented a California bakery when the Department of Fair Employment sought to force it to make custom wedding cakes for same-sex couples.

He also represented investigative journalist David Daleiden who exposed a Planned Parenthood clinic’s sale of fetal body parts. The abortion industry seeks to punish Daleiden in ongoing litigation. Jonna is Special Counsel for the Thomas More Society in these cases.

On February 21, 2020, Paul Jonna was a guest on the Ruth Institute’s Dr. J Show discussing his work on the same-sex wedding cake and Daleiden cases.

On joining the Ruth Institute’s Board of Directors in 2019, Jonna remarked: “The Ruth Institute’s focus on defending the family and helping victims of the Sexual Revolution is more important than ever in today’s cultural climate.”

Jonna was selected by the San Diego Business Journal as one of the “Best of the Bar” for 2016 and 2017 and was named to the Super Lawyers’ 2019, 2020, and 2021 San Diego Rising Stars list.

Jonna previously worked at national law firms handling multi-billion-dollar cases for a broad range of large corporate clients. He earned a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he was Comments Editor of San Diego Law Review, and earned a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. He’s also a former three-term President and current member of the Board of the St. Thomas More Society of San Diego. Jonna also serves as the President of the San Diego Chapter of Legatus.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg Was the Sexual State in a Black Robe

September 22, 2020

For Immediate Release

For More Information: info@ruthinstitute.org

“Ruth Bader Ginsburg was doubtless a fine person and dedicated to her ideas,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. “I pray for God’s mercy on her soul, and solace to her family. But her ideas are dividing America.”

“For Justice Ginsburg, the Sexual State trumped everything else, including First Amendment freedom of religion, common sense and basic science.”

Calling the late Supreme Court Justice “the personification of the Sexual State in a black robe,” Morse explained: “She consistently solidified the most radical tenets of the Sexual Revolution using the power of the State. She used the highest law of the land to overturn democratic processes that tried to protect traditional sexual morals.”

In abortion cases where even most of the court’s liberal members favored restraint, she remained an unapologetic champion of abortion without exceptions. Justice Ginsburg allowed radicals to use the power of the State to enforce their views on LGBT issues, including “transgenderism.” In June, she was part of the majority that applied workplace anti-discrimination provisions of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to homosexuals and the gender-confused.

According to Morse, “This marked the first time the Supreme Court equated so-called sexual orientation with race and religion – a move which would have confounded the authors of the ’64 law. Although meant to cover employment, the decision will inevitably lead to removing remaining barriers to a distinction between women and men who call themselves women, their DNA notwithstanding.”

“The ruling essentially erased women,” Morse observed. “So it’s ironic that Justice Ginsburg is being hailed as a champion of women’s rights.”

“In addition, her dissents showed a marked hostility to religion. For instance, in Little Sisters of the Poor vs. Pennsylvania (2020), six justices upheld a Trump rule exempting the sisters from a provision of the Affordable Care Act, which would have forced them to provide contraceptives to employees through their health insurance plan. Ginsburg was one of only two justices who dissented.”

“In 2016, Donald Trump was elected to put the brakes on the Sexual State. He can make a significant step in that direction with a prompt replacement for Ruth Bader Ginsburg.”

Supreme Court Strikes Down Mildest of Abortion Restrictions

June 30, 2020

For Immediate Release

For more information, contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

The Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana law requiring abortionists to be within 30 miles of a hospital in case of a botched abortion. “How can the pro-abortion movement, which claims to care about women, oppose something that is for the health and protection of the mother?” asked Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.

“The Supreme Court’s liberal majority will do all it can to facilitate the Sexual Revolution, of which abortion is the crown jewel,” Morse said. “We’re told sex should be child-free, guilt-free and problem-free. If something inconvenient like conception occurs, abortion is the fail-safe.”

Fr. Paul Sullins, Ph.D., Senior Research Associate of the Ruth Institute, said, “No one who welcomes the Supreme Court's latest decision can ever again claim to be against substandard ‘back-alley’ abortions. The Court's myopic decisions in Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton created this problem in the first place by preventing the adoption of federal standards for surgical abortions.

“Ample experience of women's brutal treatment at the hands of uncaring, self-serving abortion providers has shown that the abortion industry cannot regulate itself. Now the reasonable attempt by the people of Louisiana to ensure that the horrors of death mills such as Dr. Gosnell's in Pennsylvania can have no place in their state, have been thwarted by the self-appointed experts in medical care of the Supreme Court.”

Fr. Sullins will speak on post-abortion trauma at the Ruth Institute’s Summit for Survivors of the Sexual Revolution July 17-18 in Lake Charles, LA.

Survivors Summit Covers Abuse, Addictions and Attitudes that Threaten our Civilization

June 23, 2020

For Immediate Release

For More Information: media@ruthinstitute.org

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s disastrous Bostock decision, the Ruth Institute’s Summit for Survivors of the Sexual Revolution takes on extreme urgency. The Summit, to be held July 17-18, in Lake Charles, LA, will analyze the many ways the Sexual Revolution needs the power of the State to do its destructive work.

Ruth Institute President, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., stated, “The Bostock ruling redefines “female” and “male” for purposes of law. The Obergefell decision redefined marriage. The Federalist Society vetted Gorsuch, appointed by Pres. Trump, who wrote the majority opinion. This terrible ruling shows that the conservative legal establishment has no idea how to address sexual and social issues. The Sexual Revolution attacks both the individual and the family. At our Summit, we’ll take a hard look at some of the most destructive pathologies the Global Ruling Class has inflicted on ordinary people.”

Expert presentations will include:

  • Surviving Childhood Sexual Abuse – The future of health and the family depends on ending it. No one will do this but people of faith! Presented by Dr. Morse and Fr. Paul Sullins, Ph.D.
  • Surviving Pornography, as a nation, as a family, as an individual: Pornography as a Public Health Crisis, Melea Stephens (of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation) and Protecting Young Eyes: Tools for Parents and Other Educators, presented by Chris McKenna (of Covenant Eyes).
  • Surviving the LGBT Sub-Culture: Medical Issues – presented by Dr. Michelle Cretella, MD, of the American College of Pediatricians.
  • Reporting from the front lines of the Transgender Movement – stories from parents of gender-confused children, “desisters” (individuals who lived as the opposite sex and stopped), resistance within the medical profession and surprising new allies, presented by journalist Brandon Showalter.

The program will also include testimony from Survivors of the Sexual Revolution, as well as activists’ panels, question and answer sessions and general discussions.

Among the participants on the Surviving the LGBT subculture panel are journalist Doug Mainwaring and Pulse Nightclub shooting survivor, Luis Ruiz. Both left the LGBT subculture.

Morse observed: “After the Bostock ruling, social conservatives of all faiths have realized beyond any shadow of a doubt: we are on our own. Participants at our Summit will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of redefining the direction of the social conservative movement. The encounter with experts and their analysis, the first-hand testimony of Survivors, and the experience of effective activists, will inspire participants. They will come away with new friends as well as practical tips on how to get involved and make a difference.”

Ruth Institute Decries Judge’s Gag Order in #SaveJames Case

October 31, 2019

For immediate release

For more information contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

Last week, the judge in the case of James Younger, the seven-year-old-boy whose mother wants to turn him into a “transgendered” girl, issued a gag order preventing James’ father from discussing the case publicly. Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. said, “This is an egregious abridgement of the father’s First Amendment rights.”

James’ divorced parents each sought sole custody. His mother, who’s been making him wear dresses, painting his nails, and telling him he’s a girl named “Luna” since age three, has been taking him to a “gender clinic.” She wants to use drugs, and possibly surgery, to complete the process. His father is adamantly opposed.

Morse continued: “If the case hadn’t been publicized, due mostly to the interviews the father did, few of us would have known about what could have been a terrible miscarriage of justice. I believe the judge’s resolution of the case – including giving the parents joint medical decision-making – was due in part to an extraordinary public outcry.”

Matt Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, says, “It’s fairly straightforward that you can’t gag a father from talking about his son to the media.” Staver calls the order “an outrageous decision by the court that’s clearly unconstitutional.”

Morse added: “Family court judges have an astonishing amount of power. Judge Kim Cooks could have given the mother everything she wanted – sole custody and the unimpeded power to effectively castrate her son. That’s what the jury recommended. If the case was decided in the dark, the judge might have confirmed it.” A petition in support of the father on Life Petitions has more than 86,000 signers.

In another Texas custody case, where four-year-old Drake Pardo was taken from his family over what was alleged to be medical abuse, a Dallas-area judge issued a similar gag order against the family.

A week ago, Texas Solicitor General Kyle Hawkins submitted a brief on behalf of the state of Texas calling the gag order “unconstitutional,” writing that the order “is plainly overboard and cannot be squared with the First Amendment’s free speech guarantees.”

Morse stated: “Injustice grows in the dark. The #SaveJames case deserves the widest possible exposure and unhampered discussion. The father’s freedom of speech must be restored.”

In a recent webcast of The Dr. J Show on the Ruth Institute Youtube page, Morse revealed the hidden dimensions of the case. “Transgenderism, third-party reproduction, and divorce all increase the power of the state over the lives of ordinary people. This is the Sexual Deep State at work.”

Morse explained, “Our #SaveJames campaign is part of the Ruth Institute’s overall mission to counter the Sexual Revolution and speak out for its victims.”

Ruth Institute President Calls for Stricter Sentencing for Convicted S*x Offender

Update! Shortly after sending this press release, we learned that the re-sentencing hearing for Fr. Michael Guidry has been postponed until September 19. We are appalled by this delay, which only prolongs the suffering of Guidry’s victims. We call for a speedy resolution of this issue: the maximum sentence allowable by law for Fr. Michael Guidry.

For more information, contact: Rachel Golden info@ruthinstitute.org

In April, Fr. Michael Guidry pleaded guilty in Opelousas, Louisiana, to sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy. Guidry was sentenced to seven years in prison, out of the ten-year maximum sentence.

Fr. Guidry has requested, and been granted, a hearing to reconsider his sentence. The hearing will take place July 18.

Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., President of the Ruth Institute, will attend the hearing. Dr. Morse is an outspoken critic of clergy sexual abuse and cover up. She is also a passionate advocate for the victims of the sexual revolution, including victims of clergy sexual abuse.

Morse believes the sentence should not be reconsidered. “The family and other victims had achieved some degree of closure and relief from the April 30th sentencing of Fr. Guidry. Going back into court undoes the sense of finality, and revictimizes those who have already been through so much,” Morse said.

Morse explained: “When I say ‘victims’ -- plural -- I include Oliver Peyton, the immediate victim, who woke up to find Fr. Guidry performing a sex act on him. I also include Oliver’s family and the members of the community, who were shocked and disheartened by the revelation that the abuser, a priest in his 70s, had betrayed their trust.”

“Lastly, I’m talking about the victims of child sex abuse everywhere who have been watching this case. Every new case, such as Fr. Guidry’s, can be a traumatic and ‘triggering’ event, especially for those who suffer PTSD symptoms. Every slap-on-the-wrist sentence revictimizes the victims. If the judge wishes to reconsider this sentence, I sincerely hope he will resentence Fr. Guidry to the 10-year maximum permitted by law."

Morse noted: “No new facts have emerged. Fr Guidry is still as guilty as he was in April when Judge Harris originally sentenced him. I will drive to Opelousas to say so in the presence of Oliver Peyton’s family, and anyone else who cares to listen.”

The Ruth Institute works to empower victims and survivors of the sexual revolution – including victims of divorce, abuse and the LGBT culture. In April, the Institute held the first-ever Summit for Survivors of the Sexual Revolution in Lake Charles, Louisiana, where the Ruth Institute has its international headquarters.

Dr. Morse’s latest book is The Sexual State: How Elite Ideologies are Destroying Lives (and how the Church was Right All Along).
