Demographic Winter Resource Center Highlights Crisis of Falling Fertility

The Ruth Institute just launched a Demographic Winter Resource Center because “declining fertility is one of the most pressing issues of this century,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.

“Fertility has dropped dramatically in the past 70 years. In 1950, worldwide, the
average woman had 4.7 children. By 2017, that figure was cut almost in half to 2.4. A fertility rate of 2.1 is needed just to replace current population.
Already, half of all countries have below-replacement fertility.

Global population decline could begin as early
as 2064,” Morse continued.Even before that happens, we’ll need to deal with the effects of a rapidly aging population as the proportion of elderly will continue to rise in every Western country.”

The Resource Center includes a Demographic Winter Fact Sheet, a
graphic depiction of what’s at stake in a world with fewer and fewer children, what you can do about it, and the documentary, “Demographic Winter: Decline of the Human Family.”

Morse remarked: “Fertility decline is connected to almost every issue family advocates care about: worldwide abortion and contraception, cohabitation being favored over marriage, and a drop in religious participation. All these aspects feed into a global Demographic Winter. Education is desperately needed to raise awareness
of the crisis, how it came about, and what we can do to reverse it.”

This newest Resource Center compliments those on Marriage, Censorship, Transgenderism, Motherhood, and Fatherhood. “Our Resource
Centers are a one-stop shop for information on issues concerning the family,” Morse said.

The Ruth Institute is a global non-profit organization leading an international interfaith
coalition to defend the family and build a civilization of love.
