Ruth Inst. Happy BLM Moving Away from Anti-Family Rhetoric

September 24, 2020

For Immediate Release

For More Information: info@ruthinstitute.org

“Given renewed support for the family during an election year and after the COVID lockdown, even a radical group like Black Lives Matter has toned down its anti-family advocacy,” said Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.

Morse noted that the Black Lives Matter Global Network, which founded BLM in 2013, recently removed from its website the statement: “We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure by supporting each other as extended families and ‘villages’ that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents and children are comfortable.”

“This is the standard utopian dogma of the radical left,” Morse said. “Despite the cliché that ‘it takes a village to raise a child,’ children are raised best by mothers and fathers providing a loving home in which they can grow and flourish.”

Morse added: “All of the pathologies which afflict the black community – including crime and drugs – can be traced to the decline of the black family.

“On the other hand, collectively, African Americans are more supportive of the traditional family and man/woman marriage than just about any other demographic. I learned that when I was spokeswoman for Proposition 8 in California, which defined marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

“I don’t think the Black Lives Matter Global Network had a sincere change of heart,” Morse observed. “The founders describe themselves as ‘trained Marxists.’ Wherever Marxists have come to power, from North Korea to Cuba, they have sought to replace the family with the collective, be it the state or the party.

“Still, its move is an unspoken acknowledgement of the popularity of the family in these perilous times, and reason why our petition for a pro-family presidential debate is more important now than ever.”

Ruth Inst: Commission on Unalienable Rights Did a Good, not Great, Job

The United States Commission on Unalienable Rights has issued its long-awaited report, and, not surprisingly, sexual radicals have launched an all-out attack.

Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse stated: “We applaud the Commission for an excellent exposition of the origins of human rights. But we wish it had gone further and issued a strong defense of the natural rights that are currently under assault.”

The Commission’s report pointedly did not mention the right to life, or children’s rights to a relationship with both of their parents, or parents’ rights to educate their children.

“Sexual radicals will not be satisfied by anything less than total surrender to their ideological agenda,” Morse said. “No sooner was the report issued than groups like Planned Parenthood and the LGBT Human Rights Campaign began attacking it. Instead of trying to avoid controversy, the Commission should have come out unequivocally for the rights to life and man-woman marriage.”

Morse noted: “The sexual ideologues called the Report an attempt to ‘substitute the ideology of the administration’ for recognition and protection of reproductive and LGBT rights as ‘human rights imperatives.’ These ‘imperatives’ are pure fantasy.”

Morse continued, “The rights they assert to be ‘universal’ were created by activist courts and were unknown a few decades ago. The right to life and the definition of marriage are based on natural law and were recognized in U.S. law until overturned by bad Supreme Court decisions.”

“The distinguished Commission on Unalienable Rights did an admirable job of tracing the development of rights in the United States,” Morse explained. “Then it stopped short of defending the right to life.” The Commission was appointed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to advise the State Department on the origins of human rights, to help it in its dealings with foreign governments and international bodies.

The Ruth Institute supported the creation of the Commission. The Ruth Institute’s Rev. Mark Hodges testified before it, and Dr. Morse testified at a hearing on February 21st. At that time, she presented Chairman Mary Ann Glendon of the Harvard Law School with a petition signed by more than 8,000 activists and leaders (including Gov. Mike Huckabee and Alveda King – the niece of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) calling on the Commission to support an understanding of rights related to the family, including:

  • The right of every child to a relationship with his or her natural mother and father except for an unavoidable tragedy
  • The right of every person to know the identity of his or her biological parents
  • The right to life from conception to natural death
  • The right of parents to educate their own children in their faith tradition and values without being undermined by the state.

Survivors Summit Covers Abuse, Addictions and Attitudes that Threaten our Civilization

June 23, 2020

For Immediate Release

For More Information: media@ruthinstitute.org

In the wake of the Supreme Court’s disastrous Bostock decision, the Ruth Institute’s Summit for Survivors of the Sexual Revolution takes on extreme urgency. The Summit, to be held July 17-18, in Lake Charles, LA, will analyze the many ways the Sexual Revolution needs the power of the State to do its destructive work.

Ruth Institute President, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., stated, “The Bostock ruling redefines “female” and “male” for purposes of law. The Obergefell decision redefined marriage. The Federalist Society vetted Gorsuch, appointed by Pres. Trump, who wrote the majority opinion. This terrible ruling shows that the conservative legal establishment has no idea how to address sexual and social issues. The Sexual Revolution attacks both the individual and the family. At our Summit, we’ll take a hard look at some of the most destructive pathologies the Global Ruling Class has inflicted on ordinary people.”

Expert presentations will include:

  • Surviving Childhood Sexual Abuse – The future of health and the family depends on ending it. No one will do this but people of faith! Presented by Dr. Morse and Fr. Paul Sullins, Ph.D.
  • Surviving Pornography, as a nation, as a family, as an individual: Pornography as a Public Health Crisis, Melea Stephens (of the National Center on Sexual Exploitation) and Protecting Young Eyes: Tools for Parents and Other Educators, presented by Chris McKenna (of Covenant Eyes).
  • Surviving the LGBT Sub-Culture: Medical Issues – presented by Dr. Michelle Cretella, MD, of the American College of Pediatricians.
  • Reporting from the front lines of the Transgender Movement – stories from parents of gender-confused children, “desisters” (individuals who lived as the opposite sex and stopped), resistance within the medical profession and surprising new allies, presented by journalist Brandon Showalter.

The program will also include testimony from Survivors of the Sexual Revolution, as well as activists’ panels, question and answer sessions and general discussions.

Among the participants on the Surviving the LGBT subculture panel are journalist Doug Mainwaring and Pulse Nightclub shooting survivor, Luis Ruiz. Both left the LGBT subculture.

Morse observed: “After the Bostock ruling, social conservatives of all faiths have realized beyond any shadow of a doubt: we are on our own. Participants at our Summit will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of redefining the direction of the social conservative movement. The encounter with experts and their analysis, the first-hand testimony of Survivors, and the experience of effective activists, will inspire participants. They will come away with new friends as well as practical tips on how to get involved and make a difference.”

Ambassador Glendon was grateful for our interest in the Commission's work and said our petition would be permanently stored in the State Department’s archives.”

Morse continued: “As the Beatles song goes, it’s been a ‘long and winding road’ from when we launched our petition last September, in partnership with LifePetitions, to the presentation at the State Department on Friday.”

“Our petition urges the Commission to make the family its focus by acknowledging that human rights start with the family,” Morse said. It also declares that the Commission should work for an understanding of the rights which undergird the family, including:

Dr. Morse's Presentation to the Commission on Unalienable Rights

Presentation to the Commission on Unalienable Rights

US Department of State

February 21, 2020

Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.

Founder and President, The Ruth Institute

[Pictured: Dr. Morse (L) presenting Chairwoman Dr. Mary Ann Glendon with the Make the Family Great Again petition and signatures.]

Good afternoon, Madame Chairwoman, and distinguished members of the State Department’s Commission on Unalienable Rights. I am Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Founder and President of the Ruth Institute. The Ruth Institute is a global non-profit organization, leading an international interfaith coalition to defend the family and build a civilization of love.

I am here to present our petition to Make The Family Great Again to this Commission. In this petition, we explain how and why the family itself has rights. We want this Commission to know that a worldwide coalition supports this view.

We hold these truths to be self-evident:

  • That every person comes into the world as a helpless baby
  • That every person has a mother and a father
  • That children need their parents
  • That the needs of children place limitations on adult society, including limits on adult sexual behavior
  • That every society needs institutional structures for ensuring children develop from helpless infants to responsible flourishing adults

Therefore, we urge this Commission to consider the following rights of children and families in its deliberations.

  • The right of every child to a relationship with his or her natural mother and father, except for an unavoidable tragedy
  • The right of every person without exception, to know the identity of his or her biological parents
  • The right to life from conception to natural death
  • The right of families to educate their own children in their faith tradition and values, without being undermined by the state

Pro-family leaders from around the world have signed our petition, which we undertook in partnership with Life Petitions. The pro-family leaders from Latin America and Africa are especially aware of the harm international agencies can do when they ignore the rights of the family mentioned in our petition. All too often, the United States government has collaborated in the promotion of destructive policies which undermine the rights of children to their parents, and parents' rights and responsibilities toward their children.

The Ruth Institute and its international interfaith coalition whole-heartedly supports the cause of making the family great again, worldwide.

Thank you very much.

Ruth Institute Makes History

On Feb. 21st “We’ll Make History”

Ruth Institute to Present Its Make-The-Family-Great-Again Petition to State Dept. Commission

February 19, 2020

For Immediate Release

For more information, contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

“On February 21st the Ruth Institute will make history,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., Founder and President of the Ruth Institute. “We will present our petition to Make the Family Great Again to the State Department’s Commission on Unalienable Rights. This petition is historic because, for the first time, we explain how and why the family itself has human rights. And we demonstrate to the State Department that a worldwide coalition supports this view.”

Morse explained: “The Commission was appointed by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to advise the Department on how to make authentic human rights the basis of its dealings with international bodies and foreign governments. As the Commission’s Chairman, he appointed Dr. Mary Ann Glendon, a distinguished Harvard Law Professor well-known for her thoughtful articulation of genuine human rights, including the right to life.”

Pro-family leaders from five continents have signed the Ruth Institute’s petition. Dr. Morse explained, “Pro-family leaders from around the world have seen first-hand the destructive results of international policies undertaken in the name of ‘rights.’ All too often, the United States government has facilitated policies that undermine the rights of children to their parents, and parents' rights and responsibilities toward their children. These pro-family leaders are keenly interested in the deliberations of this Commission.” (See below for a partial list of leadership signers.)

The Ruth Institute Petition urges the State Department to work for the recognition of:

  • The right of every child to a relationship with his or her natural mother and father except for an unavoidable tragedy
  • The right of every person to know the identity of his or her biological parents
  • The right to life from conception to natural death
  • The right of families to educate their own children in their faith tradition and values, without being undermined by the state.

Morse noted: “President Trump campaigned on a promise to Make America Great Again. Only by making the family great again can he fulfill that promise. The Ruth Institute and its international interfaith coalition whole-heartedly support the cause of making the family great again, worldwide.”

February 11, 2020

For Immediate Release

For more information, contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., Founder and President of the Ruth Institute, announced that she will present the signatures of the Institute’s petition to Make the Family Great Again at the next meeting of the State Department Commission on Unalienable Rights February 21.

Of the petition, co-partnered with Life Petitions, Morse said, “We’re greatly encouraged by the outpouring of support, including from many leaders and scholars.”

Morse noted: “President Trump campaigned on a promise to Make America Great Again. But only the family can help him fulfill that promise.”

In July, Secretary of State Michael Pompeo established the Commission to advise his department in its dealings with foreign governments and international organizations.

The Ruth Institute petition urges the Commission and the State Department to make certain fundamental principles the basis for articulating these unalienable rights, among them that:

  • Marriage and the family are universal institutions for the stability of society and the continuation of the human race.
  • Children need their mother and father.
  • Stable loving families provide the basis for strong societies, including thriving economies, national security and international peace.

The petition calls on the Commission to work for the recognition of:

  • The right of every child to a relationship with his or her natural mother and father except for an unavoidable tragedy.
  • The right to know the identity of one’s biological parents.
  • The right to life from conception to natural death.
  • The right of families to educate their children in their faith tradition and values, without being undermined by the state.

Leadership signers include: Gary Bauer (President, American Values), Brent Bozell (Founder and President, Media Research Center), Ted Baehr (Chairman, Christian Film and Television Commission), Fr. Shenan Boquet (President, Human Life International), Janice Shaw Crouse (Author, Columnist and Speaker), Kari Curtin (National Director, Marriage Reality Movement), Pat Fagan (Director, Marriage and Religion Research Institute), Jor-El Godsey (President, Heartbeat International), Governor Mike Huckabee (former Governorof Arkansas and talk show host), Alveda King (Author and Activist), Robert Knight (Washington Times columnist), Michael Pakaluk (Professor, Busch School of Business, Catholic University of America), Toni Morrison (Representative, Ill. Student Pro-life Activists NOT Single-Issue Voters!

For immediate release

For more information, contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

Students Care About A Broad Range of Issues Related to the Sexual Revolution

Despite common stereotypes, most pro-life activists are NOT single-mindedly focused on abortion. The Ruth Institute conducted what may be the first survey of pro-life student opinion on other social issues at the Students for Life Pro-Life Summit on January 25 in Washington D.C. This Summit followed the annual National March for Life and was attended by more than 3,000 people.

Ruth Institute Founder and President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., explained: “With almost 10% of those attending the Summit taking the survey, we believe we have a representative sampling of the attendees. Since they are the future of the pro-life movement, we wanted to learn what other issues concern them.”

Of the 252 who took the survey at the Ruth Institute booth:

  • 83% said they were concerned about euthanasia
  • 83% said they were troubled by the decline of marriage
  • 66% mentioned contraception as an area of concern
  • 59% said they were troubled by what’s called "comprehensive sexuality education"
  • 50% said they were concerned about surrogacy, and
  • 47% named the worldwide decline of fertility

The ages of those who took the survey ranged from 12 through 83, with an average age of 28. The respondents were 71% women and 77% Catholic.

Dr. Morse observed: “Despite a general belief to the contrary, pro-lifers aren’t single-issue activists. They care about a broad range of issues which, like abortion, are related to the Sexual Revolution.”

Other questions on the Ruth Institute survey included:

  1. What brought you to the pro-life position?
  2. What do you think is the best argument to advance the pro-life cause?
  3. What is the best practical solution to abortion?

Morse said, “We were honored to be able to participate in the Summit. It was an exciting event that brought together student activists and leaders from across the country to learn and network. It also gave us the opportunity to conduct this important survey, perhaps the first of its kind.”

Ruth Institute Decries Judge’s Gag Order in #SaveJames Case

October 31, 2019

For immediate release

For more information contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

Last week, the judge in the case of James Younger, the seven-year-old-boy whose mother wants to turn him into a “transgendered” girl, issued a gag order preventing James’ father from discussing the case publicly. Ruth Institute President Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D. said, “This is an egregious abridgement of the father’s First Amendment rights.”

James’ divorced parents each sought sole custody. His mother, who’s been making him wear dresses, painting his nails, and telling him he’s a girl named “Luna” since age three, has been taking him to a “gender clinic.” She wants to use drugs, and possibly surgery, to complete the process. His father is adamantly opposed.

Morse continued: “If the case hadn’t been publicized, due mostly to the interviews the father did, few of us would have known about what could have been a terrible miscarriage of justice. I believe the judge’s resolution of the case – including giving the parents joint medical decision-making – was due in part to an extraordinary public outcry.”

Matt Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel, says, “It’s fairly straightforward that you can’t gag a father from talking about his son to the media.” Staver calls the order “an outrageous decision by the court that’s clearly unconstitutional.”

Morse added: “Family court judges have an astonishing amount of power. Judge Kim Cooks could have given the mother everything she wanted – sole custody and the unimpeded power to effectively castrate her son. That’s what the jury recommended. If the case was decided in the dark, the judge might have confirmed it.” A petition in support of the father on Life Petitions has more than 86,000 signers.

In another Texas custody case, where four-year-old Drake Pardo was taken from his family over what was alleged to be medical abuse, a Dallas-area judge issued a similar gag order against the family.

A week ago, Texas Solicitor General Kyle Hawkins submitted a brief on behalf of the state of Texas calling the gag order “unconstitutional,” writing that the order “is plainly overboard and cannot be squared with the First Amendment’s free speech guarantees.”

Morse stated: “Injustice grows in the dark. The #SaveJames case deserves the widest possible exposure and unhampered discussion. The father’s freedom of speech must be restored.”

In a recent webcast of The Dr. J Show on the Ruth Institute Youtube page, Morse revealed the hidden dimensions of the case. “Transgenderism, third-party reproduction, and divorce all increase the power of the state over the lives of ordinary people. This is the Sexual Deep State at work.”

Morse explained, “Our #SaveJames campaign is part of the Ruth Institute’s overall mission to counter the Sexual Revolution and speak out for its victims.”
