Awards Dinner Honors Heroes at Ruth Inst. Summit for Survivors of the Sexual Revolution

June 12, 2020

For Immediate Release

For more information, contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

As part of its Summit for Survivors of the Sexual Revolution (July 17-18 in Lake Charles, LA) the Ruth Institute will host its Third Annual Awards Dinner July 17. The honorees are:

Public Witness Award: Sue Ellen Browder, author of How I helped the Sexual Revolution Hijack the Women’s Movement. As a freelance writer for Cosmopolitan, Browder became a propagandist for sexual liberation by promoting unmarried sex, contraception and abortion as the single woman’s path to personal fulfillment. Browder will also deliver the keynote address.

Activism Award: Cathy Ruse, graduate of Georgetown University Law School and past spokeswoman on human life issues for the U.S. Catholic Bishops Conference. Ruse is being honored for exposing the Fairfax Co., Virginia Board of Education for using a Planned Parenthood-endorsed Comprehensive Sex Education program.

Professional Integrity Award: Dr. Paul Church, Cornell-trained urologist, who worked for 28 years at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. In 2013, he was removed from practice at this and other Boston-area hospitals for urging them not to participate in LGBT events, due to overwhelming evidence that same-sex practices increase the risk of disease and mental health problems. He compared this to the medical community promoting smoking.

Ruth Institute President, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., observed: “Our three honorees have been on the front lines of the fight to expose and oppose the more pernicious aspects of the Sexual Revolution. They are all heroes, and we are proud of their participation in our Survivors Summit.”

The Summit will also include “It Takes a Family to Raise a Village,” an Ambassador Training Conference (by application only) on July 17, and the full-day Summit program on July 18.

Ruth Institute Questions Why Radicals Think Pro-Family Equals Anti-LGBTQ

February 28, 2020

For immediate release

For more information, contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

Right Wing Watch – a project of People for the American Way that routinely misrepresents family advocates – responded to the Ruth Institute’s Feb. 21 presentation of its Make the Family Great Again petition at the State Dept. Commission on Unalienable Rights.

Right Wing Watch claims both the Ruth Institute petition and the Commission itself were created to help advance what it calls an “anti-equality agenda,” a term frequently used to smear and dismiss arguments for the right to life and defense of the family.

Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., Founder and President of the Ruth Institute, said, “We hold these truths to be self-evident: Every person comes into the world as a helpless baby. Every person has a mother and a father. Infancy is the one truly universal human experience. Is respecting this fact what Right Wing Watch regards as ‘anti-equality?’”

Morse continued: “Our Petition doesn’t mention LGBTQ, homosexuality or ‘same-sex marriage.’ We focus on the rights of children and parents.” Morse’s statement to the Commission reiterated the rights enumerated in the petition:

  • The right of every child to a relationship with his or her natural mother and father, except for an unavoidable tragedy
  • The right of every person without exception, to know the identity of his or her biological parents
  • The right to life from conception to natural death
  • The right of families to educate their own children in their faith tradition and values, without being undermined by the state

“Which of these rights does People for the American Way think are ‘anti-equality?’” Morse asked. “Does Right Wing Watch think children have no right to a relationship with, or to know the identity of, their parents? Maybe Right Wing Watch and its parent organization, People for the American Way, do not believe parents have the right to raise their children in accordance with their values. If so, let them tell us: who does have the right to direct the education of children?”

The Ruth Institute’s petition gained more than 8,000 signatures at its partner site for this project, LifePetitions.com. Signers included leaders and activists from 15 countries, among them former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Alveda King (niece of Dr. Martin King, Jr.), Nigerian Bishop Emmanuel Badejo, and Fr. Boniface Ssenteza (National Scouting Chaplain of Uganda).

People for the American Way and Right Wing Watch also accused the Commission, headed by Harvard Law Professor and former Ambassador to the Holy See, Mary Ann Glendon, of promoting a “right-wing interpretation of religious liberty.”

Morse countered: “The Constitution prohibits government interference with the free exercise of religion. That is neither right-wing nor left-wing. The sexual revolutionaries simply want to avoid an honest debate on these important topics.”

Ruth Institute Founder and President, Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., announced: “February 21st we reached a milestone when we presented our Make the Family Great Again petition to Mary Ann Glendon, Chairman of the State Department Commission on Unalienable Rights and former US Ambassador to the Holy See. Ambassador Glendon was grateful for our interest in the Commission's work and said our petition would be permanently stored in the State Department’s archives.”

Morse continued: “As the Beatles song goes, it’s been a ‘long and winding road’ from when we launched our petition last September, in partnership with LifePetitions, to the presentation at the State Department on Friday.”

The Commission on Unalienable Rights was appointed by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to advise his department on how to incorporate an understanding of authentic human rights into its dealings with international bodies and foreign governments.

“Our petition urges the Commission to make the family its focus by acknowledging that human rights start with the family,” Morse said. It also declares that the Commission should work for an understanding of the rights which undergird the family, including:

Dr. Morse's Presentation to the Commission on Unalienable Rights

Presentation to the Commission on Unalienable Rights

US Department of State

February 21, 2020

Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D.

Founder and President, The Ruth Institute

[Pictured: Dr. Morse (L) presenting Chairwoman Dr. Mary Ann Glendon with the Make the Family Great Again petition and signatures.]

Good afternoon, Madame Chairwoman, and distinguished members of the State Department’s Commission on Unalienable Rights. I am Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Founder and President of the Ruth Institute. The Ruth Institute is a global non-profit organization, leading an international interfaith coalition to defend the family and build a civilization of love.

I am here to present our petition to Make The Family Great Again to this Commission. In this petition, we explain how and why the family itself has rights. We want this Commission to know that a worldwide coalition supports this view.

We hold these truths to be self-evident:

  • That every person comes into the world as a helpless baby
  • That every person has a mother and a father
  • That children need their parents
  • That the needs of children place limitations on adult society, including limits on adult sexual behavior
  • That every society needs institutional structures for ensuring children develop from helpless infants to responsible flourishing adults

Therefore, we urge this Commission to consider the following rights of children and families in its deliberations.

Pro-family leaders from around the world have signed our petition, which we undertook in partnership with Life Petitions. The pro-family leaders from Latin America and Africa are especially aware of the harm international agencies can do when they ignore the rights of the family mentioned in our petition. All too often, the United States government has collaborated in the promotion of destructive policies which undermine the rights of children to their parents, and parents' rights and responsibilities toward their children.

The Ruth Institute and its international interfaith coalition whole-heartedly supports the cause of making the family great again, worldwide.

Thank you very much.

(The Ruth Institute collaborated with Life Petitions to create and circulate this petition, which can be found here. A partial list of signatories can be found here.)

Ruth Institute Makes History

On Feb. 21st “We’ll Make History”

Ruth Institute to Present Its Make-The-Family-Great-Again Petition to State Dept. Commission

February 19, 2020

For Immediate Release

For more information, contact media@ruthinstitute.org.

“On February 21st the Ruth Institute will make history,” said Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse, Ph.D., Founder and President of the Ruth Institute. “We will present our petition to Make the Family Great Again to the State Department’s Commission on Unalienable Rights. This petition is historic because, for the first time, we explain how and why the family itself has human rights. And we demonstrate to the State Department that a worldwide coalition supports this view.”

Morse explained: “The Commission was appointed by Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to advise the Department on how to make authentic human rights the basis of its dealings with international bodies and foreign governments. As the Commission’s Chairman, he appointed Dr. Mary Ann Glendon, a distinguished Harvard Law Professor well-known for her thoughtful articulation of genuine human rights, including the right to life.”

Pro-family leaders from five continents have signed the Ruth Institute’s petition. Dr. Morse explained, “Pro-family leaders from around the world have seen first-hand the destructive results of international policies undertaken in the name of ‘rights.’ All too often, the United States government has facilitated policies that undermine the rights of children to their parents, and parents' rights and responsibilities toward their children. These pro-family leaders are keenly interested in the deliberations of this Commission.” (See below for a partial list of leadership signers.)

The Ruth Institute Petition urges the State Department to work for the recognition of:

  • The right of every child to a relationship with his or her natural mother and father except for an unavoidable tragedy
  • The right of every person to know the identity of his or her biological parents
  • The right to life from conception to natural death
  • The right of families to educate their own children in their faith tradition and values, without being undermined by the state.

Morse noted: “President Trump campaigned on a promise to Make America Great Again. Only by making the family great again can he fulfill that promise. The Ruth Institute and its international interfaith coalition whole-heartedly support the cause of making the family great again, worldwide.”
