Dems focus on homosexual agenda

Jim Brown - OneNewsNow -

Democrats are currently undertaking two major efforts in Congress to enact key parts of the political agenda of homosexual activists. Today liberal Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-New York) plans to introduce a bill that would repeal the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). The bill, which already has 69 co-sponsors, would create federal recognition of same-sex "marriages."

Gay Marriage, Democracy, and the Courts

The culture war will never end if judges invalidate the choices of voters.

By ROBERT P. GEORGE
We are in the midst of a showdown over the legal definition of marriage. Though some state courts have interfered, the battle is mainly being fought in referenda around the country, where “same-sex marriage” has uniformly been rejected, and in legislatures, where some states have adopted it. It’s a raucous battle, but democracy is working.

Now the fight may head to the U.S. Supreme Court. Following California’s Proposition 8, which restored the historic definition of marriage in that state as the union of husband and wife, a federal lawsuit has been filed to invalidate traditional marriage laws.

A New England-based pro-family organization is concerned about a situation in Vermont involving bathroom arrangements at schools. Brian Camenker of MassResistance says the homosexual movement in Vermont is using a transgender-rights law to force middle schools and high schools to provide unisex bathrooms. He notes that a 16-year-old transgendered teen has asked the Vermont Human Rights Commission to lend its support to the effort.

DC court ruling affects ex-'gays'

Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow -

A landmark court decision in Washington, DC, could have far-reaching ramifications for those who have left the homosexual lifestyle. Regina Griggs, executive director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays, tells OneNewsNow that former homosexuals now have protection under sexual orientation non-discrimination laws. According to the ruling [PDF], handed down by the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, ex-"gays" are now a protected class that must be recognized under the DC Human Rights Act.

Opposing Gay Unions With Sanity & a Smile

By Monica Hesse

The nightmares of gay marriage supporters are the Pat Robertsons of the world. The James Dobsons, the John Hagees -- the people who specialize in whipping crowds into frothy frenzies, who say things like Katrina was caused by the gays.

The gay marriage supporters have not met Brian Brown. They should. He might be more worth knowing about.

Brown is the executive director of the National Organization for Marriage, the preeminent organization dedicated to preventing the legalization of same-sex marriage. For two years, Brown has been traveling across the country. He moved his wife and six kids to California, where NOM was instrumental in passing Proposition 8, the state constitutional amendment defining marriage as an institution only between a man and a woman. Before that, Connecticut, where his cause was hurt when the state Supreme Court legalized gay marriage.

A daring Baltic ban on gay propaganda

Bryan P. Bradley

A new Lithuanian law aims to protect minors from information that could be harmful to them.
Lithuania’s parliament found energy this month not only for budget cuts to keep a financial crisis at bay but also for a strong stand on family values which challenges the status quo in the European Union and has sparked an uproar in the international community. Lawmakers in the Baltic nation’s 141-member chamber on July 14 voted 89-6 to adopt a Law on the Protection of Minors, which limits the propagation of information that could be harmful to young people. Alongside examples like graphic violence, instructions on how to make explosives, presentation of drug use in a positive light and pornography, the law also restricts information “which promotes homosexual, bisexual, and polygamous relations."

A Label that Sticks [Father Paul Scalia on the Gay-Straight Alliance]

When I was in high school, the students fell into many different groups: preps, jocks, cheerleaders, punks, deadheads, druggies, geeks, and all the rest. Just about everyone received an unofficial but virtually unchangeable assignment to a particular group. When I work in high schools today, I discover little difference. The groups still exist (with just a few changes in terminology), and the teachers and administrators still counsel against the labels. As they wisely explain, labels reinforce stereotypes and prejudices; they prevent us from accepting individuals and getting to know the real person.

There is one difference, however. While still warning children against stereotypes and labels, high-school administrations increasingly encourage one group of students to label themselves: those who experience same-sex attractions. With the assistance (and sometimes pressure) of such groups as the Gay-Straight Alliance and the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network, high schools across the country now routinely have student organizations dedicated to promoting the tolerance and acceptance of homosexuality. Indeed, New York City has an entire school—Harvey Milk High School—devoted to “gay, lesbian, transgendered and questioning youth.”

Balls bans children's 'gay' jibes as government cracks down on sexual bullying

What's next? Thought police nailing you if you look like you're thinking something against gay people?
The totalitarian impulse of the gay rights movement: school yard chatter is now subject to government regulation.

By Brendan Carlin
A fresh move to ban children from using the word 'gay' as an insult was made by Schools Secretary Ed Balls last night. He said insults based on sexuality should be taken 'as seriously as racism'. His department is now set to publish new guidance to crack down on 'sexist and sexual' bullying. But Tory MP Philip Davies condemned Mr Balls for producing 'more politically-correct nonsense'.

When color trumps Christianity

Star Parker -

President Obama hosted a reception at the White House celebrating LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) Pride month. Black Christians should take note and learn a few things about our black president. As they say, we are what we do.
It tells us something that Mr. Obama had no time to host an event for the National Day of Prayer. Nor did he have time to accept the invitation to convey greetings and a few remarks to the couple hundred thousand who came to Washington, as they do every January, for the March for Life. However, the LGBT Pride event did make it onto the president's busy schedule.

Here are parts of his remarks I think noteworthy for black Christians:

Moral equivalence in the White House

Sheila Liaugminas

The first African-American president of the United States is going to bring some uniquely different values into the White House. Testing the parameters of his moral vision during the presidential campaign, Obama was asked about same-sex marriage, among other things. His answer…..that he opposed it…..has morphed, now that he’s president.
Today, he affirmed homosexual unions, and went even further…

President Obama honored Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month with a White House reception Monday where he likened the struggle for gay rights with the struggle of African-Americans for civil rights.

With first lady Michelle Obama at his side, the president told the cheering crowd filling the East Room that his administration would work to repeal the so-called Defense of Marriage Act and end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy regarding gays in the military.

United Church of Christ Resolution to Teach LGBT Curriculum in Public Schools Violates Children - Confessing Movement Protests

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., June 30 /Christian Newswire/ -- A Resolution of the General Synod of the United Church of Christ concluding today in Grand Rapids, Michigan, calls for "diversity/multi- cultural education" in public elementary schools that includes, "the experience of LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, bi- sexual, transgender), individuals and families." The resolution also calls for aggressive opposition to efforts by parents whose moral convictions are violated by such teaching to protect their children from LGBT indoctrination. The resolution mixes the LGBT agenda with a call for public school diversity teaching on racism and the acceptance of immigrant minorities.
In protest, the confessing movement within the United Church of Christ known as Biblical Witness Fellowship has issued a statement of protest. "Teaching that behavior and relationships which are morally wrong to most Christian families, as well as families of the Islamic, Hindu and other religious traditions is normative, makes the public school an unsafe environment for our children. Mixing such a message with the legitimate concerns of racism and the acceptance of immigrating families and children is offensive, intellectually dishonest, and inappropriate. Diversity demands that public education respect the morality of all and protects the innocence of children."

Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Chicago's Nettlehorst Elementary School will be the first public school in the community to march in the city's gay pride parade. According to the Tribune, the school's fence is adorned with thousands of green, blue, purple, and red strips of fabric -- each hand-tied by a student. A sign by the gate stated that the elementary school will "be the first Chicago public school to march in the city's gay pride parade." Homosexual curriculum pushed on students without letting parents opt-out

A California school district is being accused of violating federal law after it approved a mandatory homosexual curriculum for children as young as 5 – without allowing parents to opt-out of the lessons. As WND reported, the mandatory program, officially titled "LGBT Lesson #9," was approved May 26 by the Alameda County Board of Education by a vote of 3-2. Homosexual activists frustrated with Obama's agenda

Some good news regarding DOMA.

Jim Brown - OneNewsNow -
Impatient homosexual activists say Barack Obama should be moving more quickly to enact their social agenda, but he's running into a political reality that they want him to ignore. President Obama -- in his proclamation declaring June as "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month" -- reaffirmed his support for enhancing "hate crimes" laws, homosexual civil unions, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, homosexual adoption, and the repeal of the military's ban on openly homosexual service-members.

However, in the proclamation he did not repeat his campaign promise to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA. In fact, his call for the repeal of DOMA has also been stripped from the White House website.

Gay Curriculum Proposal Riles Elementary School Parents

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,521209,00.html?test=latestnews

This is the very sort of stuff that has been driving us crazy in CA. this is a power grab by the Gay Lobby, pure and simple. This has nothing to do with protecting children from bullying. As Karen England put it, the only “protected class” that gets its own anti-bullying curriculum, so-called, is sexual orientation.

And by the way, the Gay Lobby might have gotten away with this type of nonsense, if they hadn’t made an issue of same sex “marriage.” The people of CA were prepared to accept the domestic partnership law. Only the court case mandating ssm got people riled up enough to propose and pass Prop 8. The course of that campaign made people aware of the possibility of the Gay Lobby controlling the school curriculum. All those people who worked on Prop 8 are not just going to fade into the woodwork. They are paying attention now, in a way that they were not paying attention before.

An open homosexual has been chosen to head Chicago's public school system. Ron Huberman has been chosen by Mayor Richard Daley as the new CEO of the Chicago Public School (CPS) system. Huberman replaces Arne Duncan, who was chosen by President Obama to fill the position of education secretary. But Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality has some concerns.

Court says Christian school can expel lesbians

Charlie Butts - OneNewsNow - 1/28/2009

An appeals court in California ruled this week in favor of a Christian school in an anti-discrimination case.

In September 2005, California Lutheran High School in Wildomar expelled two girls after they admitted to the school principal that they had told other students they were lesbians, and that they had engaged in lesbian conduct with each other -- in direct violation of the school's code of conduct. The girls' parents then filed a lawsuit, claiming discrimination against their daughters.

Pro homosexuals protest outside Warren church

Associated Press - 1/19/2009

LAKE FOREST, Calif. - Gay rights supporters marched outside the church of evangelical pastor Rick Warren, protesting his selection as an inauguration speaker. About 100 protesters waved rainbow flags Sunday and voiced their displeasure at Warren for his opposition to homosexual marriage and at President-elect Barack Obama for choosing him to give the invocation at Tuesday's ceremony.

John Einsohn, one of the protest's organizers, tells the Orange County Register that Warren "preaches intolerance while pretending to be a friend of the gay community."

Homosexuals immune to Mass. budget cuts

Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 1/8/2009

A pro-family advocate says budget cuts are coming for Massachusetts schools, but programs aimed at promoting homosexuality need not worry. Many states across the U.S. are facing budget deficits, and Massachusetts is not immune. Governor Deval Patrick and state lawmakers have already slashed millions from the budget, but more cuts are on the way.

Brian Camenker of MassResistance says more than 1,000 state jobs as well as public school funding have been cut, while mental health facilities have also been closed. However, pro-homosexual programs in Massachusetts' public schools have remained.

Soldiers say they'd leave military if 'gay' ban lifted

Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 1/7/2009

A conservative military watchdog is very concerned about a recent survey of military personnel that indicates a significant number of service members might leave the all-volunteer force if the ban on open homosexuals in the military is lifted. The annual survey was conducted by the Military Times, which once again asked active duty personnel if they oppose the effort led by Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher (D-California) to repeal the 1993 law -- Section 654, Title 10 -- which clearly states that open homosexuals are not allowed in the military.

Approximately 58 percent of the respondents indicated that they were in favor of continuing the ban. But Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness, is more astonished at the response to a question that had never been asked on that survey before.

"In essence, what would you do if the law is repealed?" she relates that question. "The Military Times found that 10 percent of respondents said they would leave the military, and an additional 14 percent said they would consider ending their careers," she points out. "Now, even if half of those numbers turned out to be an accurate prediction, that would be devastating to our volunteer force. It would pretty much destroy the military as we know it."

She believes those who might consider leaving have legitimate concerns if the law is repealed. "The new policy would be forced co-habitation with homosexuals 24-7 in all military communities," Donnelly adds. "Corollary programs to make the program work would include professional diversity training to enforce acceptance and zero tolerance of anyone who disagrees."

Donnelly expects Tauscher to reintroduce the repeal legislation within the next several weeks.

Milwaukee OKs 'gay'-affirming school

Pete Chagnon - OneNewsNow - 1/6/2009

An Illinois family advocate says she's stunned by the approval of what she believes is the first homosexual-affirming middle school in the U.S. The proposal for the Alliance School was approved unanimously by the Milwaukee Board of Education in late 2008. The school will serve Milwaukee's six-, seventh- and eighth-graders. Laurie Higgins is with the Illinois Family Institute (IFI), which recently fought a similar proposal for a homosexual high school in Chicago.

"The way that [the Milwaukee proposal] was approved was by default -- there was no vote taken," Higgins explains. "[And] because there was no vote taken, there was no opposition; there was no request that it be tabled for further discussion. It just passed...."

The IFI spokeswoman shares another disturbing aspect of what happened in Mil Town. "...I'm stunned that the religious leaders, the Christian pastors in Milwaukee, did not rise up in righteous indignation against this school," she laments. "That is what I find perhaps equally [as] troubling, if not more so."
Higgins also questions the use of public money in the affirmation of homosexuality to minors.

"I think it's unconscionable to be affirming this in public schools," she states. "This is not an issue for public schools. And kids at 11- and 12- and 13- and 14-[years-of-age] are confused on many issues -- sexuality [being] one of them."

Regina Griggs, executive director of the group Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (PFOX), agrees with Higgins. Griggs believes middle school children should not be dealing with the issue of homosexuality. "To affirm an 11-year-old? Please," exclaims Griggs. "They haven't even gone through puberty, but they know that they want to have sex with other men and women? I'm sorry, but it's ridiculous."

Higgins and Griggs encourage individuals to oppose such developments "vociferously" before they begin spreading to other communities.

Opponents of the homosexual high school in Chicago included homosexuals who likened the school to segregation. Others questioned the need for a special school because they believe most public schools are already "gay-affirming."

Louisiana forced to recognize same-sex adoption

Charlie Butts and Marty Cooper - OneNewsNow - 1/5/2009

Two California homosexuals have won a federal lawsuit, allowing both their names to be on their adopted son's Louisiana birth certificate. According to Chron.com, the state of Louisiana initially refused the request because homosexual adoption and same-sex "marriage" are illegal in that state. Oren Adar and Mickey Ray Smith then filed a lawsuit, which stated that leaving their names off the birth certificate "singles out unmarried same-sex couples and their adoptive children for the improper use of making them unequal to every one else."

Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel and dean of Liberty University's law school, comments.

"What, essentially, you see happening are these other states, through the back door so to speak, bringing in same-sex unions through these other kinds of methods. It's not generally a direct, head-on, frontal assault with regards to same-sex marriage," he notes. "But the fact is, if a sister state is required to recognize same-sex adoption, even though it doesn't recognize it within the state, that is essentially a component that is a significant, central aspect of marriage."

According to Staver, that lays the legal ground for future lawsuits to mandate recognition of homosexual marriage on other states.

However, difficulties continue to arise in cases of unmarried same-sex couples who wish to adopt. Some registrars do not believe a man's name should be on the birth certificate space labeled "Mother" or a woman's name listed as "Father." The lawyer for Adar and Smith contends some states have "resolve[d] the problem" by changing the form to read "Parent 1" and "Parent 2" instead.

Staver says the federal Defense of Marriage Act needs to be amended to so that no state is forced to accept homosexual adoption that is legal in a sister state.

Lesbian couple wins suit against Methodist camp

The Methodist Church has lost a round over homosexual unions. In March 2007 the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association refused to permit two lesbians -- Harriet Bernstein, 67, and Luisa Paster, 61 -- to stage a civil union ceremony at the church-owned Boardwalk Pavilion, and returned their check for $250. Subsequently, says Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel, the lesbians filed a legal complaint against group. However, Association officials countered that the decision was based on their religious beliefs.

"That didn't make any difference to the New Jersey Division of Civil Rights," says Staver of the group that issued its determination on Monday. "They said there's no First Amendment defense here and in fact the church violated the public accommodation law in New Jersey," the attorney notes. "After New Jersey adopted the same-sex civil union law, no longer could the church allow its facility to be used in ministry to the public because to do so would open them up to these same-sex civil unions."

Staver says that puts the church in a quandary. "The church has really been put in the situation where the clash between the same-sex civil unions and the religious liberty is forcing the church to either violate its own religious freedom or open up its facility to the community," he points out.

The church lost a federal court decision dealing with the same matter, and that case is on appeal. The Camp Meeting Association is represented in the case by the Alliance Defense Fund, which has argued that a Christian organization has a constitutional right to use its facilities in a manner consistent with its beliefs. Founded in 1869, the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association is affiliated with the United Methodist Church.

'Licensing' morality out of the law

Could lawyers be thrown out of the profession based on their religious conviction against homosexuality?

The State Bar of Arizona is considering whether to require new attorneys to swear they will not let their views on sexual orientation get in the way of providing legal services. Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel and dean of Liberty University's Law School, is concerned.

"I believe that this is a major threat to the practice of law," he contends. "This is an attempt to literally license those out of business and to revoke the license of those who, in fact, have traditional moral values."

Staver believes the campaign is going nationwide and will be a tool used by homosexuals to hold back Christian lawyers. "If they then can hold over your head the license and the ability to practice law, that will be a devastating blow to those of us who believe in traditional family values," he points out. According to Staver, this is an issue that lawyers and law school students cannot ignore. "It's a ticking time bomb," he concludes. "It is a land mine just waiting for someone to step on them."

The Arizona Bar plans to make a decision in January.
