A battleground is forming in Chicago over a proposed "gay"-friendly high school for homosexual, lesbian, and transgendered students, or any other students who want to attend. According to reports, taxpayer money would be used to fund the school.
The school would be called the Pride Campus of Social Justice High School, and plans are under way to possibly open its doors in 2010. Advocates of the school say it is needed in order to combat the bullying, dropout, and depression rate among homosexual students. The Chicago Sun-Times quotes a member of the school's design team who says students at the school would be taught about "gay and lesbian historical figures" so those students "have heroes."
Laurie Higgins and her group, the Illinois Family Institute, are at the forefront of the fray. "A high school that is dedicated to or centrally focused on homosexuality necessarily requires that public educators have come to some prior conclusions about the nature and morality of homosexuality," she points out. Those are aspects of homosexuality that she says stand "far outside the purview of public educators." (hear audio report)
Pro-family advocate Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality [Caution: This website contains graphic images] takes issue with the fact that the school would be run on taxpayer monies. "The taxpayers -- whether they're Christians, Orthodox Jews, Muslims -- they will be funding [this] pro-homosexual indoctrination school for so-called 'gay' youth," he explains.
The activist also takes issue with the prospective principal of the school -- 29-year-old Chad Weiden -- who was asked what it would have been like if had had a school like Pride Campus to attend.
"...[H]e says quote: 'I would have made progress a lot earlier. I would have had a model of what it meant to be a gay man -- that a gay man could be in a committed relationship, a marriage; could have children. I didn't know that was possible.'
"Well, it's not possible," LaBarbera reacts. "Two men cannot produce a child -- and they can't, quote, 'have children.'"
Higgins agrees that public funding for the school would be inappropriate. And as for the rationale for the school being needed to combat bullying of homosexual students, she believes rules of conduct should be established and enforced on an equal basis. "The task is to combat harassment and abuse and bullying, while not affirming disordered thinking and immoral behavior," she explains.
And while she acknowledges that some homosexual students are bullied, Higgins' experience in public education reveals another group that she feels suffers more. "I can say with assurance that the kids who are very conservative Christians are probably the ones who are the most ridiculed or made fun of," she states.
Chicago Public Schools is soliciting public input for a vote. LaBarbera and Higgins both encourage concerned Chicago parents to petition that the school not be allowed to open.

Gay marriage is not private, it's public; it's not about tolerance, it's active affirmation; and if we don't win on Prop 8, church groups and religious individuals are going to be in the government's crosshairs.
What happens if we fail to speak now for marriage? This week, two Canadians offered "Same-sex marriage: Lessons from Canada."
"The right to practice religion freely has not fared well against gay equality rights," note the Canadians. "We see this most clearly through the human rights tribunals. In British Columbia, the Catholic Knights of Columbus were fined for declining to host a lesbian couple's wedding reception. Chris Kempling, a teacher, was disciplined by the teachers' governing body for a letter to the editor about homosexuality and in Alberta, on May 30, 2008, a pastor, Stephen Boissoin, was fined for the same, and ordered never to speak 'discriminatorily' on the topic of homosexuality again."
Bottom line? "Where gay rights triumph, new rights battles begin."
The latest news report from the Associated Press suggest something equally extraordinary: so far we are out-fundraising gay marriage advocates. "Supporters
have raised $19.2 million so far, while opponents have raised $13.6 million...." Wow! The word on the street for years has been that "nobody really cares about marriage." Even as Americans voted time and time again (in 27 states!) for marriage as the union of husband and wife, gay marriage advocates, tapping elite networks like Hollywood, typically outspent pro-marriage campaigns by margins of 10 or 20 to one. (In Wisconsin, in 2006, gay marriage advocates spent over $4 million to defeat a marriage amendment; marriage advocates spent just $167,000. And we won anyway!)

Law professor Richard Peterson is receiving all kinds of hate mail and is under a lot of pressure these days. How dare he stand for the truth about marriage between a man and a woman! What is happening to him is representative of what will happen to every Californian who expresses the truth that there is a difference between marriage and same-sex marriage unless Prop 8 passes. Pepperdine University has forced the Yes on Prop 8 Campaign to remove the professor's affiliation from the ad.

Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage Will Increase Prevalence of Homosexuality:
Research Provides Significant Evidence
by Trayce Hansen, Ph.D.
An accumulation of research from around the world finds that societies which endorse homosexual behavior increase the prevalence of homosexuality in those societies. The legalization of same-sex marriage—which is being considered by voters in several U.S. states—is the ultimate in societal endorsement and will result in more individuals living a homosexual lifestyle.
Extensive research from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and the United States reveals that homosexuality is primarily environmentally induced. Specifically, social and/or family factors, as well as permissive environments which affirm homosexuality, play major environmental roles in the development of homosexual behavior...
A Danish research investigation studied two million adults living in Denmark, a country where same-sex marriage has been legal since 1989. This study uncovered a number of specific environmental factors that increase the probability an individual will seek a same-sex rather than an opposite-sex partner for marriage.
For Danish men, the environmental factors associated with higher rates of homosexual marriage include an urban birthplace and an absent or unknown father. Significantly, there was a linear relationship between degree of urbanization of birthplace and whether a man chose homosexual or heterosexual marriage as an
adult. In other words, the more urban a man's birthplace, the more likely he was to marry a man, while the more rural a man's birthplace, the more likely he was to marry a woman.
For Danish women, the environmental factors related to increased likelihood of homosexual marriage include an urban birthplace, maternal death during adolescence, and mother-absence. Interestingly, this Danish research finds that urban birthplace and separation from the same-sex parent both were associated
with same-sex marriage for men as well as women. (The latter finding supports psychological theories that have long asserted homosexuality is related to childhood problems—real or perceived—with the same-sex parent). In summary, this study finds that environmental factors that contribute to the development of homosexuality can be social and/or familial.
Finally, an American research study—the most comprehensive and representative survey of sexual behavior in America—reported its findings concerning homosexuality. The results of this study also support an environmental theory of homosexuality, not a genetic one. In particular, this survey identified specific types of environments that increase the likelihood of homosexual behavior. The authors describe these environments as "congenial" to the development of homosexuality.
