Thank you California, for Supporting Marriage! Prop 8 passes!
Dr. Jennifer Roback Morse
Victory!
The people of California voted to preserve marriage as the union of one man and one woman. With 95% of
the precincts counted, the race is 52% in favor, 48% opposed to the constitutional amendment defining
marriage as the union of a man and a woman. We at the Ruth Institute are very gratified by this outcome.
We know that many Ruth Institute friends and supporters contributed to this mighty victory. This race
was close enough that everyone’s contribution made a difference. Please do not ever again think that
you are too small to matter, or that your efforts are too insignificant to make a difference. Every vote
truly counted. That means all the Ruth Institute efforts to educate and involve the public made a difference.
Some of you attended our lecture series, “Same Sex Marriage Affects Everyone.” You became more effective
and enthusiastic advocates for marriage. Some of you shared our materials with your friends, neighbors
and relatives. You made them more effective and enthusiastic advocates for marriage. Some of you brought
Dr. Morse to your homes and places of worship. Some of you made financial contributions, which allowed
us to produce these programs and materials. All of you can take great pride in a job well done. We couldn’t
have done it without your support.
We at the Ruth Institute plan to continue the effort to promote natural marriage. We know now, more than
ever before, that California and our country, needs a permanent educational voice for marriage. We plan
to be that voice, with your help.
Thank you all, for everything!
